WHAT HAPPENS DURING yOUR DYSPORT APPOINTMENT

If necessary, a topical numbing cream or local anesthetic will be used to reduce discomfort. Then, your injector will mark the injection sites. Finally, they will carefully inject Dysport into the muscles that are responsible for the unwanted wrinkles. As soon as Dysport is injected, it will begin relaxing the targeted muscles by blocking neurotransmitters that would usually contract these facial muscles. Patients will still be able to express themselves after treatment, but the lines and wrinkles that would normally appear will be softened after the treatment has had time to work (typically within a few days). One session of Dysport injections usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Patients are welcome to combine these injections with other facial procedures such as dermal fillers for more comprehensive results.

IS DYSPORT SAFE?

As long as you receive FDA-approved Dysport injections from a highly trained and experienced medical professional, treatments should be very safe. While Dysport is relatively new to the United States, it has been used in Europe with great success over the last 20 years.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF DYSPORT?

All treatments, including Dysport, involve some side effects. The good news is they only rarely occur. Mild bruising and temporary soreness are two of the most common side effects of Dysport. Other side effects include slight headaches and an allergic reaction that leads to flu-like symptoms or a rash. If you experience any unusual side effects, it’s important to inform our office right away.

ARE DYSPORT INJECTIONS PAINFUL?

Most patients who undergo Dysport injections report only a bit of discomfort that goes away quickly. Our surgeon will apply some ice to the target area prior to injection to help make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

HOW MUCH DYSPORT IS NECESSARY?

The amount of Dysport that is necessary varies from patient to patient. Our surgeon will recommend the ideal amount of Dysport you need to achieve natural results. They will not use an excessive amount of the product as doing so can lead to a “frozen” look.

WILL I NEED TO TAKE TIME OFF WORK IF I RECEIVE DYSPORT TREATMENTS?

One of the major advantages of Dysport is the lack of downtime. Most patients return to work and other responsibilities immediately after they receive their injections.

WHERE IS DYSPORT TYPICALLY INJECTED?

In most cases, Dysport is injected into the forehead, in the area between the eyes, and the area that surrounds the corners of the eyes, where crow’s feet often form. The chin and the corners of the mouth area are other less common injection sites.

HOW LONG DO DYSPORT RESULTS LAST?

The amount of Dysport injected, your age and your skin type will determine how long Dysport results last. However, most patients enjoy results for three to six months. HOW OFTEN CAN I RECEIVE DYSPORT INJECTIONS?

We recommend that patients wait at least 90 days in between Dysport treatments. In the event that you decide to stop Dysport treatments, you will slowly return to the appearance you had prior to starting the injections.

CAN I SWITCH TO DYSPORT IF I’VE HAD BOTOX INJECTIONS IN THE PAST?

Yes. Since Dysport is similar to Botox, these injections are nearly interchangeable. Since dosing is different between the two products, it is essential to visit a medical professional that understands and has experience with both products. If you have stopped responding to Botox for any reason, you may find that Dysport is the ideal solution.
